While grief produces so many strong emotions, lethargy is the odd one out.
If something so quiet can be so loud, this would be it.
We rage. We cry. We scream and pound our fists on the steering wheel of our car in an empty parking lot.
And some days we can’t bring ourselves to get out of bed excepting absolute necessities.
I get up to take my five children to their respective schools, throw on some clothing that my children remind me I’ve already worn, and motionlessly go through the motions.
Absent from life in those early days. Eyes that tell a story of nothing.
For when we buried our loved one, we buried ourselves.
And the merry-go-round of emotions continue until we stand on solid ground.
It comes, but it takes longer than anyone would like. We trudge through the quicksand of life until we find that we have reached the shore, and the ship that we embark upon is named Hope.
Hope keeps us safe, takes us places we’ve never been. The longer we sail, the farther we go, and the waves of our new lives become the rhythm upon which we depend.
Hope. You’re here. 💙
